Rational policy for irrational times

The post-truth era has swept aside almost all hope of a rational approach to policy and politics. Instead we have a highly emotional political climate in which untruth and populism drives destructive policies which ultimately work against everyone’s interests, including those pushing the irrational policies. It creates clouds of uncertainty, confusion, despair and hopelessness - a miasma in which it is easy to get completely lost.

This blog will put forward as rational response as possible to the climate and energy challenges that humans across the globe are having to face, now and in the next decade. I will strive to present and discuss rational climate and energy policies.

I will be swimming against the tide, pushing uphill and holding out for what many have given up on. Some will call me unrealistic.

And that’s OK with me. Rational thinking is even more necessary when the situation seems hopeless and half-measures and fudges are all that many people can hope for. It plants seeds in the sea of irrationality, it engenders hope, it inspires fresh thinking …….

Most of all, I hope it will blow wisps of clarity through the clouds of confusion and misinformation and keep reaching beyond half-measures and striving for what is rational.
