What’s Lobbying?Political lobbyingGrassrootsGrasstopsLearn to lobby!

Talking to other Aussie citizens about climate policy

Grassroots lobbying looks like…

  • Tabling: Setting up a simple table at a market or fair and having a friendly chat with people

  • Clip-boarding: Printing out some simple information to gather ideas and opinions from a local community

  • Speaking and education: Volunteer lectures or speaking appearances at education institutions

  • Community events: Gathering speakers and getting together to learn about policy

  • Plus anything else! As long as it’s consistent with CCL values, you’re good to go!

Grassroots action:

Organise 👋

  • Get together with a small group of friends and other CCL members

  • Figure out a simple, easy activity you can do together

  • Don’t overthink it, the best way to learn is to have a try!

Support 😊

  • Share ideas and get support on Slack from folks in your state

  • Feel free to ask non-CCL friends to support you.

Have fun! 😁

  • Have a go, even if it’s not perfect you’ll learn a lot

  • Share your learnings with your group and the wider CCL community 😊

It’s always more fun together.

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

The three kinds of lobbying

  • Political

Meeting your political representatives to talk about climate change in a caring, non-partisan way that’s all about listening.

  • Grassroots

This is all about citizens talking to citizens, whether it’s setting up a table at a local farmers’ market, or an event with a local politician.

  • Grasstops

Making friends with community leaders, including executives, religious and cultural leaders and our elders.
